CareerFinders, on behalf of our client, a Global Group of Companies with diverse business interests, we are seeking to recruit a Chief Legal Officer to join their team based in Nicosia. The successful applicant should be a qualified legal practitioner and member of a professional legal association in the EU/UK/USA and possess approximately 15+ years of post-qualification experience, ideally in Corporate and/or Commercial Law. Although based in Cyprus, this is a truly global role.
Develops and leads corporate legal strategy to promote and protect the Group's matters.
Oversees delivery of legal services and resources to accomplish corporate goals, strategies and priorities.
Advises the Global Leaders of the Group companies and other senior corporate officers on a variety of issues.
Participates in the formulation of general management policy as a member of the executive leadership team.
Anticipates and identifies legal issues and counsels officers of the Group and other members of the global leadership team and of the different Group companies in order to develop legal strategies and solutions, often in situations of significant business impact, and with limited time for assessing alternatives.
Reviews, researches, interprets, and prepares both written and oral opinions on a wide variety of legal issues.
Drafts, reviews, and approves policies and procedures, regulations, bylaws, and other legal documents.
Reviews contracts, leases, and other legal documents; researches legal issues and recommends revisions as necessary.
Represents or oversees the representation of the Group and upper management in legal matters and in business negotiations.
Develops and manages annual legal budgets for the organization and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses.
Selects and retains outside counsel, as required, to obtain legal opinions or to handle claims, litigation and conclude various projects.
Set up new legal structures and business in new jurisdictions.
Supervises legal work of other attorneys, paralegals, and outside counsel; consults on difficult or sensitive issues.
Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest developments in college and university law and in other related areas.
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and third-party agreements with vendors, partners, and customers and provide related risk-mitigation strategies during adoption and execution.
Collaborate cross-departmentally and cross-functionally with other departments to ensure agreements and messaging are legally compliant and consistent with internal processes and policies.
Bachelor and Master’s Degree in Law from a reputable university (preferably in the UK).
Qualified legal practitioner and member of a professional legal association in the EU/UK/USA.
15+ post qualification experience.
Partner in law firm with global capabilities/ experience and/or in-house counsel of an international group of companies.
Position will be based in Cyprus. Relocation would be considered.
Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
Demonstrated ability to successfully manage a large corporate or centralized institutional legal office.
Ability to provide competent legal advice and counsel to the Executive Team and Global Leadership Team on a wide range of legal and policy issues.
Knowledge of the range of applicable laws and regulations which impact on all facets of Group policy and operations.
Ability to analyze and interpret issues and to prepare legal opinions.
Knowledge of current and developing legal issues and trends in area of expertise.
Ability to supervise and coordinate the work of legal professionals, paraprofessionals, and consultants.
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
Knowledge of contract law and general commercial law.
Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques.
Knowledge of the judicial system and procedures.
Knowledge of legal documentation procedures and requirements.
